इंग्लिश ( English )स्टोरी का हिंदी (Hindi)  अनुवाद 

HINDI STORY

                                             चूहों  के लिए  दावत                                                      

 

रविन्द्रनाथ टैगोर की मशहूर कथा .

The vacation was over and a group of boys was on the train, chugging back to school. they were in an angry mood. “It’s an outrage!” they said with one voice. “We shan’t study under a new teacher!”

छुटियाँ खत्म हो चुकी थीं और बच्चों का एक ग्रुप ट्रेन में सवार स्कूल के लिए निकल चुका था. वे सभी गुस्से में थे. “ यह तो सरासर अन्याय है” सभी ने एक स्वर में कहा . हम उन शिक्षक से नहीं पढेंगे. 

They were to get a new Sanskrit teacher, Kalikumar Tarkalankar by name. As a protest, someone in the group had already changed the teacher’s name to Kalo Kalo Kumaro Tatka Lanka ( black pumpkin and read-hot chilli) and made up a rhyme called “sacrifice of the Black Pumpkin” which they were singing at the top of their lungs.

 

कोई एक काली कुमार तारलंकर नाम का व्यक्ति, अब उन्हें एक नए संस्कृत टीचर के तौर पर मिलने वाला था. विद्रोह के तौर पर ग्रुप में से किसी छात्र ने उनका नाम भी बदल कर  काला कद्दू और तीखी मिर्च रख दिया था. बच्चे उसे सुर में चिल्लाते हैं “ बहिष्कार है बहिष्कार इस काले कद्दू का”.     

 

At Arkhola and elderly gentle boarded  the train. With him came his bedroll, a few odd bundles, one big trunk and two or three large earthen pots, their  mouths securely tied with cloth.  Immediately a tough looking boy , nicknamed Bichkun, began to yell and call him names .”Get down, you old foll! There is room here. Go to another carriage.

अर्खोला में एक बुजुर्ग सज्जन ट्रेन पर सवार हुए. उनके साथ उनका एक बिस्तर, एक बड़ी सी संदूक और दो तीन बड़े मिट्टी के मटके थे ,जिनके मुँह अच्छी तरह से कपडे से ढके हुए थे. तभी एक मोटे-ताजे से दिखने वाले बच्चे ने जिसका नाम बिचकुन था , चिलाना लगा “ उतर जाओ मुर्ख बुड्ढे इस ट्रेन से . यहाँ जगह नहीं है . तुम दुसरे डब्बे में जाओ".

 

The old man replied calmly, “ The train is packed. I don’t get any seat. So don’t worry i will sit in a corner and won’t trouble you at all.

बुजुर्ग सज्जन ने शांत मन से उत्तर दिया, “ पूरी ट्रेन भरी हुई है . मुझे कहीं जगह नहीं मिल सकती. इसलिए तुमलोग चिंता मत करो मैं कोने में ही बैठ जाऊँगा और किसी से कोई तकलीफ नहीं दूंगा.

 

With that, he unrolled  his bedding on the floor and settled  down on it. A little later he turned to them and asked , “Where are you all going, my boys,and for what purpose?”

इसी के साथ उन्होंने अपने बिस्तर को खोलकर वहीँ लगा दिया और वे वहीँ बैठ गए. थोड़ी देर बाद उन्होंने मुड़कर पुछा, “ बच्चों , तुमसब कहाँ और किस काम से जा रहे हो?

 

“To fix somebody for ever.” Said Bichkun.  “And who is that person?” asked the old man.

“किसी को सबक सिखाने वो भी हमेशा के लिए” बिचकुन ने कहा .“और वह कौन हैं?’ बुजुर्ग सज्जन ने पुछा.

“Kalo Kumaro Tatla Lanka,” came the reply, and the boys began to belt out rhyme:

“कालो कुमार ताटका लंका”, जवाब यही मिला , और फिर बच्चों ने सुर छेड दिया.

“Pumking black and read-hot chilli , See, he looks, so very silly!”

“काले कद्दू तीखी मिर्ची, देखो कितना दिखता है मुर्ख” 

At Asansol, the train stopped for a while and the old man got down to have wash. When he came back, Bichkun shouted , “Get off this coach, mister, or you will be sorry!”

कुछ देर के लिए ट्रेन जब आसनसोल में रुकी तो तो वो बुजुर्ग सज्जन स्वच्छ होने चले गए.  जब वे लौटकर आये तो बिचकुन चिल्लाया “ चले जाओ इस बोगी से वरना तुम्हे बहुत पछताना पड़ेगा”.

“Why, what’s wrong?” “There are mice  crawling all over the place.”  “Mice? Really oh, no!

क्यूँ. क्या हुआ ? "यहाँ चूहों की फ़ौज है चारो तरफ” , “ चूहे , अच्छा??? सच में क्या?

“you can see for yourself; your pots are all empty!”

“आप खुद देख लो ना कैसे आपके बर्तन खाली हो गए”.

  The old man saw that the laddos on one pot    were gone. So were the sweets in another.

बुजुर्ग सज्जन ने देखा एक बर्तन के लड्डू गायब थे. उसी तरह दूसरी मिठाई के भी.

Bichkun pointed out , “that bundle of yours, too.  The mice have run off with its contents!”

बिचकुन ने उस ओर हाथ से इशारा किया , वो तुम्हारा ढेर भी. उसमे जो भी था चूहे लेकर भाग गए.

The bundle had contained five ripe mangoes from the old man’s garden. But he was not upset. “Poor. Creatures,” he said with smile. “They must have been starving!”  “Not a bit of It,” returned the boy “They are always like that, stuffing themselves even if they are not hungry! Now if there were anything more in your luggage they would have eaten that too, for sure!”

उस बंडल में पांच पके हुए आम थे जो उस बुजुर्ग सज्जन के बगीचे के थे . लेकिन वो फिर भी शांत था. “ बेचारे यह जीव” उन्होंने मुस्कुराकर कहा . “ज़रूर ही वे भूखे रहे होंगे” वे ऐसे ही हैं. भूख न हो तो भी ठूस लेते हैं. अगर आपके सामान में कुछ और भी होता तो वे उन्हें भी ज़रूर खा चुके होते.

 

 

The boys laughed but the old man looked really sorry. ” I wish I would have known there would be all these mice on the train, I would have brought more to eat”.

बच्चों ने जोर से हंसा . लेकिन वो बुजुर्ग व्यक्ति कुछ दुखी हुआ और कहा “ काश मुझे पता होता यहाँ इतने चूहे होंगे तो मैं और ज्यादा खाने का सामन लेकर आता.

The boys were surprised, even a little disappointed, to see that the old man was not angry. It would have been fun to watch him lose his temper.

बच्चे चकित थे और थोडा परेशान भी . यह देखकर कि बुजुर्ग सज्जन गुस्से को गुस्सा नहीं आया. बुड्ढे को गुस्से होते देखना उनके लिए एक आनंद का क्षण हो सकता था.

They pulled into Bardhman, where they had to wait for an hour and board another train. The gentle man said, “Don’t worry dear children I won’t trouble you any more.  This time I can find a seat in another coach.”

उन्हें बर्दमान में रुकना पड़ा जहाँ उन्हें एक घंटे बाद दूसरी ट्रेन पकडनी थी. तभी बुजुर्ग सज्जन ने कहा “प्यारे बच्चों चिंता मत करो मै अब तुमलोगों को परेशान नहीं करने वाला क्यूंकि अब मुझे दुसरे डब्बे में जगह मिल सकती है. 

 

But the boys would not hear of it. “No, no!” they shouted. “you must come with us. If there is anything more left in your bundle, we will guard it on the way. You won’t lose anything, we promise!”  “Oh, all right,”  replied the gentleman. “Go ahead and board the train, all of you. I will join you in a minute.

लेकिन बच्चों ने नहीं सुना . “नहीं- नहीं”,  वे चिलाये .आप हमारे ही साथ चलिए. यदि आपके सामान में कुछ और बचा हुआ है तो हम उसकी देख –रेख करेंगे. पूरे रास्ते हम उनकी पहरेदारी करेंगे. अब आपको कोई नुकसान नहीं होगा, हम वायदा करते हैं. “अच्छा अच्छा ठीक है” बुजुर्ग सज्जन ने कहा . “तुमसब बैठो, मै तुमलोगों के साथ ही थोड़ी देर में चलता हूँ”.

 

The boys filed into the new train. A little later sweetmeat seller came to their window pushing his cart, with the gentleman beside him. He handed each of them a paper bag full of sweets , saying, “This  time the mice won’t go hungry.” The boys cheered loudly.

 

बच्चे दूसरी ट्रेन पर सवार हो गए .कुछ देर बाद मिठाई के ठेले को धकेलता हुआ एक मिठाई वाला खिडके पास आया जिनके बगल में बुजुर्ग सज्जन थे जो और उन्होंने मिठाई से भरे हुए कागज़ के ठोंगे बच्चे को देते हुए कहा – अब चूहे भूखे नहीं  रहेंगे . बच्चों ने ख़ुशी से चिल्लाया.

 

 

 

Next , a Mango seller came with a full basket and the boys enjoyed a feast of mangoes. They asked the gentleman, “Tell us, where are you going, and why?

अगले ही पल भरी हुई टोकरी के साथ आम विक्रेता आया और बच्चों ने अब आम का लुत्फ़ उठाया. उन्होंने उन सज्जन से पुछा . “ अब बताइये आप कहाँ जा रहे हैं और क्यूँ ?

“I am looking for a job,” he told them. “I will go wherever I find one.

“मैं काम की तलाश में जा रहा हूँ” उन्होंने बच्चों से कहा . जहाँ काम मिलेगा वहीँ जाऊँगा.

“And what kind of work can you do?” they asked.

“और आप किस तरह का काम कर सकते हैं?” बच्चों ने पुछा.

“I am a school teacher,” he said.  “I teach Sanskrit.”

“मै एक स्कूल टीचर हूँ,” उन्होंने कहा .”मै संस्कृत पढाता हूँ”.

 

The boys bursts out clapping. “A school teacher? Teaching Sanskrit?  Then you must come to teach in our school.”

 

बच्चों ने ख़ुशी से तालियाँ बजा डाली. “ स्कूल टीचर?” जो संस्कृत पढ़ाते हैं?  फिर तो आप हमारे स्कूल में पढ़ाइये”.

 

“They won’t  have me. Why should they?”.

“वे मुझे नहीं  रखेंगे. वे भला  क्यूँ रखेंगे?”

“We will see that they do!” the boys assured him.

वो हम देख लेंगे, वो रखेंगे” बच्चों ने आश्वासन दिया.

“We shan’t allow Kalo Kumaro Tatka Lanka to show his face anywhere in the neighbourhood. just you wait and see.”

हम उन कालो कुमार टाटका लोंका के साथ वो करेंगे कि वो अपने पडोसी तक ओ अपना चेहरा नहीं दिखा पायेंगे.

“Supose your secretary doesn’t like me?”

मान लो तुम्हारे सचिव ने मुझे पसंद नहीं किया तो?

“He had better like you. Or we will all leave the school in protest.

उनके पास आपसे बेहतर होना चाहिए वरना हम फिर स्कूल छोड़ देंगे

“Very well Then, my boys, take me to your school.”

“ठीक है प्यारे बच्चों फिर ले चलो मुझे तुम मुझे अपने स्कूल.”

 

They had reached their destination . And whom did they see?  The secretary of the school committee, waiting right there, on the platform . As the old man alighted from the train, the secretary came forward to meet him.

वे अपनी मंजिल पर पहुँचते ही हैं कि वे क्या और किसे देखते हैं? स्कूल की समिति का सचिव एक ओर प्लेट फॉर्म पर खड़ा इंतज़ार कर रहे थे . फिर जैसे ही वो बुजुर्ग ट्रेन से उतारते हैं, सचिव उनके करीब पहुँचता है. 

Welcome, to Master Tarkalankar, sir,” he said. “your rooms are ready for you.” And he bent down to touch the old man’s feet."

आपका स्वागत है तारकालंकर सर, उन्होंने कहा. आपके कमरे तैयार हैं . और वो उन बुजुर्ग सज्जन के पैर छूने के लिए झुकता है.
